Sony has announced they will team up with Sandisk to developa new memory card for handsets, measuring 15mm x 12.5mm x 1.2mm, about 1/4 smaller than Memory Stick Pro Duo. Named Memory Stick Micro, the card not only makes more compact multimedia handsets possible but also supports reading/writing in Memory Stick Pro Duo-based equipment through a specialized adapter. Featuring data transfer rates up to 20MB/s and a maximum capacity of 32GB, Memory Stick Micro is expected to be commercialized in the first half of 2006, with licensing for compatible hardware starting October 2005.
